The Cobra Corn— Bombay Seasoning (Mumbai Masala) recipe is the foundation for Dishoom Foods, founded by Mihir Shah. The bold and flavorful Cobra Corn recipe was concocted by Mihir’s mother, Dr. Teju Shah, a dedicated doctor, mother of four, and extraordinary cook! Teju was born and raised in India and relocated to the United States in 1964, where she raised a family in Lexington, Massachusetts.

While growing up in Lexington, MA, Mihir sought for American foods such as burgers, hotdogs and pizza in order to fit in with the rest of his friends. Mihir’s culinary transition had become a challenge for his mother who tried new ways to get Mihir to appreciate her cooking. One day she surprised him with a batch of uniquely flavored popcorn when he arrived home from high school. After his first bite he was instantly hooked on the flavorful popcorn! And so Cobra Corn was born!

At college, Mihir’s mother’s popcorn had quickly become famous among his friends who sometimes open his popcorn deliveries before they had reached him. Mihir eventually graduated college, but the addicting popcorn had already too many fans, and he began to realize that there was a demand. Wherever Mihir went, he introduced the uniquely flavored popcorn that progressively gained a fan base all over America. The more mouths he fed, the more he was encouraged to share this new and delicious popcorn with the world!

Cobra Corn was introduced to consumers in Chicago, Illinois, where Mihir was able to tie in his family’s native Indian roots and the unique popcorn with his Cobra mascot, also native to India. It’s the perfect combination for the popcorn that packs “Bold Flavors for Adventurous Souls!”
